This site gives an overview of the proposed plans for the former Wells Cottage Hospital site in St Thomas's Street.
It includes the conversion of the original Victorian hospital into three houses and the replacement of the large unattractive central block with eleven contemporary three bedroom houses.
Designed by the David Brain Partnership of Bath, they will reflect the vernacular by the integration of a mix of materials from the local street scene. Materials will be from sustainable sources and the most modern eco friendly building techniques with high levels of thermal efficiency will ensure reduced CO2 emissions and low energy consumption. It will also incorporate the best of contemporary and eco friendly sustainable methods.
Work is scheduled to start towards the end of the year with completion of the first houses in the summer of 2011.
Managing Director of the project, Christopher Chapman comments:
"Taking the decision to partly demolish has been a breath of fresh air - I am very happy that the integrity and design of the new scheme will dramatically improve the site and I am proud to be involved in a project which will compliment the broad eclectic mix of the local architectural landscape."
